Joseph "Joe" Riley
Joseph "Joe" Riley was a character in the movie version of The Shawshank Redemption.
Character Biography
He is seen watching Andy Dufresne and Red as they walk around the courtyard toward the start of the movie. Joe's intentions are unknown and his appearance seems somewhat unusual since he does not feature a reference in the book.
Joe's is seen throughout the movie, appearing for a total of 6 times- each time he says no words, just looks toward mainly Andy.
In 1954, shortly after Brooks' departure, Joe's appearances cease until after Andy's escape. This could imply that he had something to do with it.
Joe's inmate number is what appears to be 66666, this could relate to a satanic presence in the prison, perhaps this shown by the wardens' violent behaviour, including Fat Ass' death and the treatment of Andy during his time in The Hole and perhaps also in the warden as he kills Tommy after finding out he's testify to get Andy out of prison.
