Fatass' first notable appearance is that of his only one really, suddenly realising the harsh truth of Shawshank, he began to cry, speaking of how he did not belong in prison and wanted his ' Momma ' - It is at this point that Captain Hadley strikes him in the center of the stomach and two un-named guards proceed to violently beat him. His death became a demonstration and example of Hadley's fierce brutality.
He is mentioned later when another prisoner confirms that due to a head injury, ' Fatass ' had died.
